We Cannot Lose The Rights To Pet Ownership
| We Cannot Lose The Rights To Pet Ownership "If indeed the property status of animals were to be abolished, what would be the legal and practical effects on the commercial use of animals? What would happen to the animals themselves--should they be put in sanctuaries, sterilized, or permitted to move towards extinction?" When you look at recent legislation that makes crimes out of noncriminal activities such as; the right to sell or re-home your animals, the right to own the number of pets you feel you can be responsible for; the right to own the breed of dog of your choice and the criminalization of owning a natural intact dog or cat, you can begin to see the real threat. These proposed laws all restrict animal ownership. What is under attack, is the right to own the pet of your choice as your personal property. Taking this right away, through the term “Guardianship” is what PetPAC calls the Hidden Agenda of animal rights extremists. Guardianship strips you of the right to actually own your pet. It strips you of the right to make decisions about the love, care and health of your pets. And while it imposes a lesser responsibility upon you than that of an owner, it also opens you up to lawsuits over the care of your dog or cat by anyone who chooses to harass, harm and insult you. Once you are stripped of ownership, you lose the ability to choose what’s best for your dog or cat. It takes away your ability to decide with your veterinarian the best kind of health care. You can have a family pet, but it can always be taken from you. Many of us have grown up with pets. We have brought them into our hearts and made them part of our family, and in return they show us unconditional love, devotion and loyalty. They bring us happiness and joy, even though at times it is they who dictate the terms. Some of us, with disabilities, must depend upon our pets to get us through our lives. We put our trust into pets to work for us; to protect us; to hunt with us and some times just to bring peace into our world. Mankind has lived with dogs and cats for thousands of years. Our world would be a different place without them. It is for these reasons that PetPAC is initiating a new campaign to ensure no one can abridge our rights to own the dogs and cats we choose. PetPAC has developed a NATIONAL PET OWNERS BILL OF RIGHTS© that we will ask all of you to support. We plan to take the National Pet Owners Bill of Right across the United States right into the halls of congress. Now is the time to reinforce laws that have allowed us the unconditional ownership, love and care we have established to protect us and our animals. We cannot allow those who want to impose their sterile, vegan lifestyle upon all of us to succeed. We need to bring together a huge army of pet owners with us to congress to convince our lawmakers to support this campaign. |
