Statewide Opposition to Mandatory Sterilization
- Mandatory Sterilization requires a dog or cat of any age to be spayed or neutered even if their veterinarian objects to it. There is no appeal process by the animal owner. There is no due process.
- Mandatory Sterilization allows a verbal or written complaint (an allegation) by a felon, illegal immigrant, or child, that has not been investigated or substantiated to stand as one of the violations of this measure.
- As written this would allow convicted felons or anyone else to verbally complain against the use of a police canine dog, and in effect, require that animal to be sterilized after the third complaint. The same holds true for service dogs, guide dogs, hearing impaired dogs, bomb and narcotic detection dogs, working sheep and cattle dogs, and any other dog used in agriculture, or protection.
The problems of our animal shelters is a complex one. It needs further study to resolve the many issues we face with our pets. There are solutions, and PetPAC is determined to work to institute them.
