Our Cats

Phoebe
I work as a veterinary technician and one morning a lady on her way to work saw a small kitten get hit by a car.  She stopped and picked up this poor little critter, put the kitty in her car, and drove to the clinic where I worked.  She gave us $40 to do whatever we could for the kitten. Well, this little kitty had a broken right paw and right side pelvis fracture.  She was very dirty and had fleas, ear mites and intestinal parasites.  After about two weeks of being in our clinic I decided to take her home to see if she would heal on her own.  She was wonderful. She had to be confined to a crate for 30 days and never once complained. I was going to find someone to adopt her once she was healed. That was 10 years ago. She is still here and I love her with all my heart. She limps but it doesn't stop her from doing what any other kitty can do.

Sheba
My cat's name is Sheba, and she is awesome! She was named after Lieutenant Sheba on Battlestar Galactica, but she also believes she is the "Queen of Sheba"--just ask her. I named her this because the day she and her littermates, all orphans at 5 weeks old, arrived at my ranch, a friend also brought by some small trout he'd caught ice fishing. She pounced on the biggest one, would NOT let go, and told her brothers to take a hike and get their own fish. She grew up a ranch cat, and learned to not only be a champion mouser, but was also a "kennel cat" as we had sled dogs. She learned how to handle them, and survived just fine. When I moved to the city and brought her with me, she thought she had died and gone to heaven! Food she didn't have to hunt for! Sleeping inside on the beds! Dogs she could boss around! Catnip toys! Her own window seat perch where she can bask in the sun and "survey her kingdom." She is the first cat I've had that has entwined herself in my life so thoroughly. I love her so much! I can't believe she'll be 12 this year, and I dread the day that I'll eventually lose her. I pray it's a long time off yet!

Quinn
We adopted Quin, and her friend Socks, from a rescue that was looking for barn homes for feral cats that had to be relocated. Upon their release from the cage in the barn they were being acclimated in, Socks left and was never seen again. Quin, however, became more friendly with us. Eventually we allowed her into our house, where she has made it very clear she prefers to be.
The attached picture shows her sleeping on the sofa with my husband's leg on top of her.

Luna
The feline love of my life: Introducing…from 2008’s feral kitten crop…"Luna" Queen of the Rottweiler's and one rescue pitty! Best friend: Oliver, the first feral kitten from last year's crop. The little orange male found in the hood of dad's truck, covered in grease and oil. Sadly we dont have any photo's of Oliver yet. Some of Luna's favorite things- Food: Fancy Feast, and Royal Canin kitten formula. Hobby: Chasing insects and flies when one should happen to come indoors. Also, sleeping on dads’ chest while he's in the lazy boy recliner, or better yet, trying to bat the rescue pitty's tail around. I never thought I would love a cat so much!

Savana
This is one of our 2 cats, Savanna. She was found running in the middle of the street dodging produce trucks in 1995, during the last El Nino, in Salinas California. I stopped in the middle of traffic & opened the car door & she flew into the car & up under my chin purring & shivering. Since then, she has become my husband's best friend. As a one year old, she developed a nerve condition that led her to chew her tail almost off, and the only way to save her was to dock it short. Her 'bobcat' look suits her; our vet says she snarls just like a big cat, and her howls in the exam room often have people thinking there is a cougar being treated! She tolerates me, (even though i brought her home) and one of our friends who has wooed her with bits of salmon & roast beef, but truly adores my husband. She loves to spend 'Daddy time' in the bathroom curled up under the blanket while he reads his online paper, and when he stretches out on the bed lays on his tummy almost drooling. At age 14 she still rules the roost, chasing our 90 pound mixed breed dog & my 40 pound Australian Shepherd out of the bedroom on a regular basis, even though she is declawed (front feet only). She truly is a Cat with Attitude as the sign below says.

Hercules, Felicity and Sadie
I work with Katmom Feline Rescue.  Occasionally when I rescue an animal my involvement in their care negates my husband and I putting the cat up for adoption through our Rescue Group. Hercules, Felicity and Sister Sadie are 3 of the kittens that we could not let go of. Hercules (Orange Tabby) came to me at a PetSmart Adoptathon just hours old in an orange Home Depot bucket.  He was on the top of dirty towels with his umbilical cord attached.  A Backhoe Driver found him in the dirt and took him to the Construction Site Office. When he was only a week old he climbed up the bedspread to get to us and that is when he was named Hercules. Felicity (black and white) and Sister Sadie (black) are litter mates. Felicity was found on the steps of a trailer in a trailer Park, all but dead. I took her to my vet and Felicity had a blood transfusion from another Cat that had been dropped off at my Vet's office to be put down.  Yes, I found a home for the cat who gave his blood to save my Felicity. I spent two nights in a van hiding trying to catch Sister Sadie. Sister Sadie was quite feral but we spent months getting her to accept us and let us touch her.  Now she is the biggest love.  Hercules, Sadie and Felicity are near and dear to our hearts.

Buster & Pudgy
I am Mom to two beautiful cats.  Buster is a big orange & white boy who "Busters" around my house all day long.  Pudgy is a small orange girl who just wants Buster to let her take a nap once in a while.  Buster came to me via a rescuer, and in a short time she had managed to spoil him rotten.  He is really a very sweet boy who is sure that everyone wants to hold him, pet him, and tell him that he is handsome.  Pudgy came from my Vet's. office.  Buster is the adventurous one of the pair.  He jumps everywhere.  I have a picture of him on top of my front door.  He jumped there from the TV set and over a large plant.  He also has an obsession with sinks and dryers.  I have pictures of him in the kitchen sink, the bathroom sink and in my dryer.  He is such a character and such a love bug.  My grandchildren and I really enjoy him and all his goofy ways. Pudgy is a very sweet girl who just wants quiet, a nice warm lap to sleep on, and lots and lots of love.  She also enjoys hunting birds through the window screens and chattering at them when the window is closed. They are lots of company for me and very loving.  Adopting a homeless pet is definitely worth the effort.  Now if they would both get used to living with four small dogs things would be perfect.

Vegas & Nevada
This is a photo of my two kitties who were born in the middle of April 2009.  In the photo, they are aged 4 months. They are both bob-tails, about half their litter were bob-tails, and no one knows why (mom has a normal tail and who knows who the dad is?).  They are practically twins, and best friend brothers (Vegas and Nevada are their names, because they were born there). They are very curious, and hang out with my Welsh Corgis (also bob-tailed), and are not afraid of loud noises or vacuums. I'm guessing they think that they are dogs. I'm hoping they don't learn to bark. I think they're going to be big guys, but they are extremely gentle and lots of company. I've had dogs for years and it's fun to have both types of animals to see how differently they approach life. Fascinating!

Frosty
This is my wonderful Frosty. I had the pleasure of his company for 18 years and lost him to diabetes. He was a wonderful gentleman with
dogs, other cats, and people. Frosty was abandoned when his owners moved. They just moved out and left him - my son found him one snowy night, huddled under the porch covered with snow and he named him Frosty.

Gonzo
I lost my cat before I moved and it took me 2 years before I found a cat that would “fit” into my household.  I have 2 large dogs that love to chase and mess around with kitties.  So, as you can see, I did need a “dog savvy” cat.  One day, while searching on line, I found a cat that needed a new home.  He grew up with a Rottie and 3 Chihuahua’s.  I brought him home and, needless to say, he is very “dog like”, calling the dogs when he wants to play.  He loves to play with my shepherd by batting his nose and licking his feet.  Gonzo is hysterical.  He has brought so much joy to my life with his kitty/dog like ways. He loves to hang around just out of the “dogs reach” and tease them.  It is so funny to watch.
